A few facts about Bangkok:

Bangkok is the most populous city in Thailand, with an estimated population of over 10 million people. The greater metropolitan area, known as Bangkok Metropolitan Region, has a population of around 15 million.

Geographical Location: Bangkok is located in the central part of Thailand, on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is situated in the Chao Phraya River delta, which flows into the Gulf of Thailand.

The full name of Bangkok in Thai language is "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit." It is often shortened to "Krung Thep," which means "City of Angels."

Bangkok was founded in 1782 by King Rama I, who established it as the new capital of Thailand (then known as Siam) to replace the former capital of Ayutthaya, which was destroyed by the Burmese. The city has since grown rapidly and undergone significant development.

Temples: Bangkok is known for its numerous temples (called "wats") and iconic landmarks. The most famous temple is Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, which features a distinctive prang (tower) covered in colourful porcelain. Other notable temples include Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) located within the grounds of the Grand Palace, and Wat Pho, home to the reclining Buddha statue.

The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings in Bangkok that served as the official residence of the Kings of Siam and later Thailand. It is a major tourist attraction and is renowned for its intricate architecture, including the famous Emerald Buddha housed within Wat Phra Kaew.

Floating markets: Bangkok is famous for its floating markets, where vendors sell fresh fruits, vegetables, and other goods from traditional longtail boats. The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Amphawa Floating Market are popular tourist destinations.

Street Food: Bangkok is a haven for food lovers, particularly street food enthusiasts. The city offers a wide range of delicious and affordable Thai cuisine, including dishes like pad Thai, green curry, mango sticky rice, and tom yum soup. Popular areas for street food include Yaowarat (Chinatown) and Khao San Road.

Tuk-tuks are a common mode of transportation in Bangkok. These three-wheeled vehicles are popular among tourists and locals alike for short journeys within the city. They are known for their open-air design and the distinctive sound of their two-stroke engines.

Traffic Congestion: Bangkok is notorious for its heavy traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. The city's rapid urbanization and the growing number of vehicles contribute to this issue. However, the city has an extensive public transportation system, including the BTS Skytrain, MRT subway, and river boats, which provide alternatives for getting around.

These are just a few facts about Bangkok, a vibrant and culturally rich city that blends tradition with modernity.
